Birmingham BEASTS!! Our First Hunt in Alabama

Our first hunt in Alabama was nothing short of unforgettable. With its dense forests, rolling hills, and prime whitetail habitat, Birmingham set the stage for an incredible hunting adventure. We had heard stories of the giant bucks roaming these lands, but experiencing it firsthand was something else entirely.

Arriving in the early morning, we set out before sunrise, the crisp southern air filling our lungs. Our guide had scouted a promising area near a thick bedding zone, where mature bucks were known to travel. The anticipation was high as we made our way to our stands, carefully navigating through the towering hardwoods.

As dawn broke, the forest slowly came to life. Birds chirped in the distance, and the rustling of leaves signaled the movement of deer. We remained patient, scanning the tree line for any sign of activity. Then, just as the first golden rays of sunlight pierced through the canopy, a massive buck emerged from the brush.

The Birmingham beast was everything we had hoped for—tall tines, a wide spread, and the unmistakable posture of a dominant buck. Moving cautiously, he seemed to be scent-checking the area, looking for signs of rival bucks or receptive does. My heart pounded as I slowly raised my bow, ensuring my shot was steady and true.

As he stepped into my shooting lane, I took a deep breath, focused on the vitals, and released the arrow. The shot was perfect! The buck dashed off but didn’t make it far before collapsing within sight. The rush of adrenaline was overwhelming as I approached the downed giant, truly in awe of the size and stature of this Alabama monster.

This first hunt in Birmingham exceeded all our expectations. The challenge, the beauty of the landscape, and the thrill of the pursuit made it an experience we will never forget. Alabama’s whitetail country had truly delivered, and we can’t wait to return for another round of chasing these legendary beasts!
