Man, what a buck! This is one of my clients who was struggling to make the most of his 40-acre tract, which he actually lives on. Two years ago, I visited his place and walked him through how I would set it up and hunt it if it were mine. He put in the work, followed the plan, and today, it all came together when he put an arrow through this giant.

A lot of hunters underestimate smaller properties, but don’t be fooled—40 acres can produce giants if managed correctly. On this particular property, we implemented several key strategies. We planted sections of switchgrass for cover, hinge-cut trees to create thick bedding areas, and strategically separated doe bedding zones to increase his property’s ability to hold does. The result? When the rut kicks in, the bucks come looking.
You may not be able to hold multiple mature bucks on 40 acres year-round, but you can design it to draw them in during the critical months of the season. That’s exactly what happened here. Huge congratulations to my client for trusting the process and putting in the effort. I’m proud to have been part of this journey!
